What is the Unlocked Selinus Music Festival?

After the first official stage on 8 and 9 June in Palermo, which involved almost 15,000 young people at the velodrome named after Judge Paolo Borsellino, by popular demand a second event was organised in Selinunte, in the largest archaeological park in Europe, located in the municipality of Castelvetrano in the province of Trapani.

The choice of Selinunte as a location was not accidental because, in addition to the unquestionable beauty of the ancient park, today it represents a strip of land sensitive to initiatives that spread legality.

The stage featured performances by Italian and international artists such as Nic Fanciulli and Junge Junge , but the big guest star in this case was Carl Cox, the first DJ in the world to have played in the setting of the famous neolithic site of Stonehenge (UK) and at Château de Chambord, the largest castle in the Loire Valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Who is Carl Cox?

Born in Manchester in 1962 to parents originally from Barbados, Cox started DJing at the tender age of 8 at family parties. After getting to grips with old soul 45s, he bought his first pair of professional turntables at 15, and the rest is history. In 1989, at the outdoor event Sunrise, in front of 15,000 people, Cox was the first DJ in the world to perform with three turntables, and his technique has since established him as one of the best DJs around.

Always considered one of the true stars of the international techno scene, Carl Cox has played a leading role in the history of dance music over the last 25 years, from disco to hip hop, from the house explosion to the rave phenomenon of the late 80s and the era of superstar DJs. A resident DJ for 15 years at the legendary Space nightclub in Ibiza, he is now an icon on the dance music scene, maintaining a constant leading role. Now living in Australia, Carl continues to be as tireless a globetrotter as ever, with a proverbially packed calendar of events around the world.
