A fascinating place to visit in Milazzo is the historic centre, where an antiques market is held on the first weekend of every month. The entrance to the village coincides with the beginning of Via Impallomeni, flanked on both sides by the Spanish Military Quarter. There are numerous religious buildings within the village, for example, the beautiful Sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola, built in the 15th century, and the 18th-century Viceroy’s Palace, strongly dominated by the Baroque style.
Walking along the Capo area, from the small square in front of the Church of the Holy Trinity, it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking view: Milazzo is offered to the eye in all its splendour, the citadel and the crescent of the promontory, almost as if they were pictures just painted by hand. To the west, the coast opens out into a striking strip of sand and a coastal road running parallel to the sea leads to the Grotto of Polyphemus, the place where mythology tells of Ulysses’ encounter with the Cyclops.
